A toned, flat tummy is a goal many of us strive to achieve, but endless crunches and ditching all your favorite foods aren't the right—or fun—way to do it. A sculpted core and trim tummy can be attained by incorporating small changes into your day.
 A flat tummy comes with weight loss as I lost most of my tummy fat when I lost weight. I'm not where I want to be (I still don't think my tummy is flat) but I'm a long way from where I started. My waist used to be around 30-31" but now it fluctuates btw 25-26" and my tummy bulge isn't that visible any more (except when garri consumption has recently occurred).
So I decided to share a couple of things that has helped me get this far.

Eat more fiber
Before my weight loss, my breakfast was always bread , fried yam/potatoes/plantain and tea. But now, most mornings I have Cornflakes or Cerelac (hey! don't judge me) for breakfast. I'd like to think that it has contributed to my weight loss.

Avoid carbonated and fermented beverages
These drinks have gas in them, and when you consume them, you end up with gas in your intestinal system, which leads to a swollen and bloated belly. Where do you think all those bubbles from carbonated drinks end up? They gang up in your belly!
I used to drink sprite everyday pre-weight loss. I never drink the 35cl, I graduated from the 50cl to the 1.5 ltrs. But when I started my weight loss journey, I reduced my intake to once a month and oh that day usually felt like Christmas! lol. Now I take it about once a week or not at all.

I don't think exercises give you a flat stomach. They only help to tighten your stomach muscles. I'm a baddie when it comes to crunches, I can do 200 straight up! I started doing them when my tummy was big and it didn't help. I only noticed that I had started forming abs under my flabby stomach, lol.
The only exercise that helps is cardio which includes jogging, running, jumping jacks, skipping etc. But this also helps general weight loss and I know I have skinny sisters that just want the tummy gone without any more weight loss. So I'd suggest crunches, planks and push ups to help tone up the stomach.

Sculpt your core while you walk.
As you go about your day, imagine there's a magnet pulling your belly button back toward your spine. Practice the tuck until it becomes comfortable, and soon this easy ab-engaging move will become like second nature.

Forget water weight: Drinking lots of water helps flush bloat that your body might be holding onto.
I also drink warm water every morning before breakfast. This helps bowel movement.

Sit Up
And I don't mean the exercise routine (which actually makes my tummy look bigger, dunno why). While sitting down, don't slouch, sit up! This helps improve your posture.

Y'all know I think lemons are the best thing to happen to mankind. lol. I squeeze 2 lemons in a glass and drink the juice. I do this 4 days a week n twice a month so that's a total of about 8 times a month. I tend to pee a lot when I drink lemon which I'm guessing is good, right?

Watch the Sugar
Reduce the amount of sugar you take in to the barest minimum.

Avoid Fried Foods
This is one of the hardest things I've hard to do for a flat tummy. I live for fried plantain! But I've been able to reduce how often I consume fried foods.

Reduce your salt intake
Salt retains water and increases bloating.

Blend up a smoothie 
Smoothies are a great way to stay hydrated and can contribute to a flatter stomach. Fruits like Pineapple, Water melon, Banana etc are great for smoothies.

Stay away from alcohol
I don't drink alcohol cos of the horrible taste so this is a walk in the park for me. 

Eat more often 
Instead of three large meals that can fill your belly and tax your digestive system, eat small, frequent meals or snacks. Eat your meals about two to three hours apart; they'll take up less space in your stomach, cause less expansion, keep your metabolism up and keep you feeling full

Check for a lactose intolerance 
If dairy products cause you  uncomfortable gas and bloating, you may have difficulty digesting lactose, the sugar found in dairy. 
My sister has the flattest tummy I've seen in real life (you know the type that caves in) that no matter the amount of food she gulps down, it looks the same and I hate her so much for it! But whenever she takes milk which she can't seem to stay away from, she gets bloated (which is just a tiny increase in her stomach as it still looks flat) and keeps her really uncomfortable. So if you are one of those that are intolerant to lactose, its best you stay away from dairy.

  • Don`t eat too quickly. Eating slowly allows your digestive system to function properly. 
  • Drink water before and after every meal; it helps fill up your tummy and leaves just a little room for food.
  • Keep trying no matter what the cost. Don't put yourself down you will get there.
  • After you've eaten, wait at least two hours before you go to bed in order to give yourself time to digest your food.
  • Eat breakfast! Eating breakfast can actually speed your metabolism up!
  • Try to become more active; even taking the stairs instead of the elevator is a start!
  • Run at least 30 min per day or week to speed up your metabolism
  • Don't be put down if you don't see results straight away. They will become visible eventually.
  • Compare yourself to your earlier self, don't compare yourself to models, it'll only put you down. Most models are airbrushed anyway, so it is literally impossible to achieve that standard of a body.
  • Try eating 6 small meals instead of 3 large meals.
  • Chewing gum is a good thing, not only if you are trying to stop smoking, but also if your mouth is bored but you're full. Don`t chew gum for over an hour at a time or your jaw may start hurting.
