Well, I didn't really lose 20 pounds... yet.

I've gotten a lot of 'OMG! You lost alotta weight! How did you do that?'
I decided to put it down in a post and share it with y'all.

This post will be divided in two parts.
A. Pre-Weight Loss
B. Post Weight Loss

This post will cover what I did before I lost weight.

I was always a tiny girl back in primary and secondary school. The weight gain started a few months before I got into uni and  I became 'ok' with being 'chubby' n 'cute'. I started getting uncomfortable with my weight somewhere in my second year in uni.
I did a lot of research online, asked questions etc. People told me about different pills n teas to take but my mum has always been against young girls taking stuff like that (so we don't ruin our chances of making babies in the future) so I never took any of that.
I would starve myself for weeks , I would lose some weight and gain it back shortly cos I resumed my old habits.
So last year, I got fed up with the struggle and made up my mind that I would lose weight even if it kills me.
So I will list the 4 steps that helped me lose weight.
This is the most important step, the decision to live a healthy lifestyle. The journey is not just about weight loss but to live a healthy life by changing a lot of your simple daily habits. You have to want it really bad and decide to do what it takes. This decision births determination to give up unhealthy habits and put in the necessary work.
I got a book and wrote down my present weight/measurements and my goal weight/measurements. This helped me figure out how much work I had to do.
Once you got this step down, you are ready to start your journey. You can decide to start a healthy lifestyle in this coming year (this post came just in time, right?!)

It's a quick way to jump-start weight loss. Detoxification is a way to remove toxins from the body. Specific detox diets vary — but typically a period of fasting is followed by a strict diet of raw vegetables, fruit and fruit juices, and water.
I didn't go all in on this, I just stuck to the simple lemon and water. So 1 week out of every month, I drink lemon juice with water every morning before I eat anything.

This is the 2nd most important step. It entails changing  your lifestyle completely.
  • I stayed off carbohydrates like rice, bread, yam, noodles, garri (this was the hardest as its my fav thing to eat) etc. I ate lots of protein (I ate beans 5 days a week for more than a month), cereals,  plantain (rumour has it that its also fattening, but I don't give a hoot!), vegetables (my least favourite things to consume but I had lots of cabbages and carrots) and fruits (oranges, bananas, pineapple).
  • I ate only when I got hungry.
  • I didn't eat junk food.
  • I don't like alcohol on a normal day so it wasn't a problem but staying of Fanta and Sprite almost killed me! But I did it.
  • I drank lots of water, about 3-4 litres everyday.

Yes, you need to exercise to tone up your body during weight loss else you would get all saggy in the areas where you lose fat and have excess skin hanging loose.
Its not that serious. But weight loss is 70% Diet and 30% Exercise so exercise is pretty important.
I jogged 6 days a week for a month, did the 30-day squat and crunches challenge the next month, I squeezed in a couple of work out routines every now and then (jogging on the spot, jumping jacks, leg raises, sit ups, high knees etc).
You can start small, talking long walks , simple floor exercise, jumping jacks etc. You would feel amazing after sweating it out; I DO.

Hope you found these tips helpful
Watch out for the concluding part.

I would love to answer any questions you have.
